Lamp Work & Silver Bracelet by Ed Wray

Step 1

Start by bending approximately 2 inches on one end of your beading wire and hooking it through one end of your toggle clasp.

Step 2

Next bead the following beads over the doubled end of your beading wire:

Crystal, Bali Spacer, Crystal, Bead Cap (open side facing away from the toggle) and finally a crimp bead.

There is an important reason for using these small beads near the toggle.  If the beads next to the toggle are too large it will make it difficult to close the clasp, requiring another person to do it, or not being able to close it at all. (Been there - done it - try not to do it anymore.)

Step 3

Pull the end of the 2 inch tail sliding all of the beads against the toggle removing any slack in the wire.  Make sure it is snug, but still allows the toggle to move freely on the wire.

Once everything is in place, crimp the bead inside the bead cap.  Crimp it as close to the bead cap as possible, as you want to be able to hide it when you slide the next bead on.  You may have to use the tips of the pliers to crimp the bead, depending on the depth of your bead cap and size of your crimp bead.

Crimped Bead well inside of the bead cap.
No more crimp bead!

Step 4

Do not trim off the excess tail from the beading wire.  Instead, continue to bead over is until it 'disappears' inside one of the beads.  The reason for doing this is, occasionally a crimp bead will come loose and need to be recrimped.  If it does, you can do it without having to completely restring the piece because you have this extra material to work with.

Now string all of your remaining beads making sure to offset the bead pairs in the same order on the opposing sides of the focal bead.  Put bead caps on each side of the lamp work beads and crystal beads between as spacers.

Step 5

Now slide on your other crimp bead followed by a crystal bead,  a Bali spacer and a final crystal bead.

Step 6

Next loop the wire through the other end of your toggle clasp and feed it back through several beads as shown here.  Again you are doing this to save yourself a big headache if the crimp bead should come loose at some point in the future.

Step 7

Now pull the free end of the wire taking out all of the remaining slack in the piece.  Pull firmly making the bracelet rigid.

Step 8

The best way to determine the correct amount of slack to leave in the bracelet is to simply (and carefully) bend the bracelet until you can close the clasp - as you would if you were wearing it.

Step 9

Now crimp the crimp bead.  Because it is placed next to the silver bead cap it will be virtually invisible.

Step 10

Cut off the remaining exposed wire with your side cutters.

And you're done!
