Here are some of the things you will need to get started in your new beading hobby.

Round Nose Pliers  - Round nose with a very fine point. Used for making wire loops, especially in headpins for ear rings. Top

Chain Nose Pliers - Jaws tapered at tips & edges are beveled to prevent marring of soft wire. Available in smooth and serrated jaw models. Top

Flat Nose Pliers - For setting jump rings and holding and manipulating flat pieces. Top

Diagonal Cutters - Semi-flush cutting edges for precision wire cutting of softer wires. Top

Side Cutters - Cutting pliers with a vertical angle and thin cutting surface. Used for cutting knots between pearls or beads on completed strands that must be taken apart. Top

Crimp Pliers - These pliers are essential for getting the right look when using crimp beads.  They are relatively inexpensive and indispensable if you are planning to bead using Acculon or tigertail.  They are quite easy to learn to use - take a look at this tutorial. Top

Bead Reamer - Hand held reamer/file set. Used for widening and straightening the holes incorrectly drilled into beads. Top

Jewelers Tweezers - Extremely fine pointed tweezers. Used for picking up small objects. Also used for finishing off knots and between beads. Top

Locking Tweezers - Very handy as a 'third hand' to hold items in place and for holding bead projects which have not been finished.  Usually it is a good idea to have at least two of these handy. Top

Beading Board - Another indispensable item, this makes necklace and bracelet design a snap as you can lay out your entire project before you actually start stringing your beads. Top

Beading Needles - These are particularly useful with smaller beads or beads with small holes - typical in crystal and semiprecious beads.  The most versatile and easiest to use needles are the 'big eye' needles.  The 'eye actually runs almost the entire length of the needle making it very easy to thread.  Because it is flexible wire it will easily pull a double strand of thread through the bead.
